Mariah Smith

Executive Administrative Assistant

As CVI’s Executive Administrative Assistant, I work closely with our program staff and leadership team to coordinate day-to-day operations of the CVI office.

My Story

I’m a conservation voter because I believe we need to protect the quality of the natural environment and access to our public lands so that future generations can breathe clean air and build a connection with nature. Our physical and mental health depends on the health of the planet, and it is our responsibility to protect it all costs.

My introduction to the outdoors began in Salmon, Idaho where as a kid I would spend the summers horseback riding and camping in the Lemhi and Northern Rocky Mountain Ranges.  I spent my first two years of college playing volleyball and my junior year I took the opportunity to study abroad in Spain and advance my Spanish language skills.  After college I spent a year and a half living on the island of Oahu where I learned to scuba dive and became passionate about marine conservation issues.  Returning to Idaho after Hawaii I furthered my relationship with the outdoors through activities such as rock climbing, hiking and backcountry skiing.

Work Experience
My professional experience has focused largely human resources, recruitment and operations in a few industries including healthcare and education, however I have now decided to redirect my career focus towards conservation to align with passions and devotion to protecting the environment.  I recently worked as a Horticulture Technician and spent a summer in Colorado doing trail maintenance and restoration.  Currently I am furthering my education in the sciences and now learning about environmental policy and conservation through working with CVI!
