My story

I’m a conservation voter because it is a way of life for me. My father worked in county conservation for his entire professional career and instilled in me the importance of caring for the land, water, and air for all beings great and small.

I grew up in northeastern Iowa, right on the Mississippi River. I spent my childhood biking and camping with my family, playing outside with my brother, and learning about plants and animals from my dad. When I got to college, my academic advisor and superb mentor quickly helped me realize that I held a deep passion for the environment I could not ignore, and that I needed to expand my studies to include some science courses. I particularly enjoyed my entomology class, where my homework most days was to catch bugs. I feel a real connection to nature – I hold immense gratitude and respect for every beautiful moment I spend outdoors.

  • I continue to commit to my passion in my professional career, and to strive to leave the world a little better than I found it.
