Public lands are interwoven throughout the Idaho way of life. Our polling from June 2025 shows 96% of voters support keeping public land in public hands. Our public lands work is furthered through direct relationships with legislators, holding congress accountable, and grassroots efforts. We are dedicated to protecting and preserving access to public lands for generations to come.
Senator Jim Risch took a strong stand for public lands Wednesday, yet still must vote in the coming days on the future of the Bureau of Land Management. Risch, along with the other members of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, questioned BLM Nominee Steve Pearce at Wednesday’s Committee Hearing in D.C.
CVI is in full support of HJR10. This proposed Constitutional Amendment, brought by Representatives Britt Raybould (R-Rexburg) and James Petzke (R-Meridian), would alter the priorities on state endowment land to prevent the sale of our valuable state public lands. Additionally, it would enshrine public recreation as a priority for state public lands within the Idaho Constitution.
Two constitutional amendments are being considered by the Idaho Legislature that would impact our public lands. The House Amendment (HJR008) is intended to protect state lands, while the Senate Amendment (SJR102) creates a mechanism to transfer land from its current federal protections to the state of Idaho. CVI is opposed to Senate Joint Resolution 102.
Conservation Voters for Idaho is a statewide, bipartisan 501(c)4 nonprofit that works to create the political environment to protect the natural environment. As the only political conservation non-profit in Idaho, our work is crucial to protecting the right to vote, energy independence, and public lands in Idaho.
