Meet the 2023 Boards and Commissions Fellowship Cohort

Rachel Martin

Rachel Martin is Chief Pilot for a small air carrier based in Boise, Idaho. She lives on her family’s small ranch in Gem County. Rachel was born in Florida, but as a young person her parents moved to Alaska where they taught in rural villages. Since then, Rachel has lived in many places around the world, but Idaho has become her home. She feels thankful to have been given a position of influence in life, and wants to use that privilege to help lift others up.

As a transgender woman, Rachel has realized that it’s important to be visible and show that transgender people are making positive and valuable contributions to the community. Rachel applied for the program because being visible as a representative on Idaho boards and commissions will help contribute to this positive image and message. She wants to get from the Fellowship program how to better represent the interests of all marginalized people, and how best to apply for a position on these boards.

Rachel loves to spend time with her partner and family. She enjoys reading, music, taking walks, and the company of the family dogs and cats.
