October 1st marked the launch of the 2023 application for the Boards and Commissions program.  So far, we have eight folks interested in participating and we need more! We are looking for twenty to twenty-five folks statewide, so please share with those you know so we can have a robust class. The link to the application can be found here. The deadline is next Monday, October 31st at 11:59 p.m., so if you’ve been waiting to submit your application, don’t wait much longer!

Old Business: Recruitment

This month, we’ve had the pleasure of visiting friends, old and new, in other parts of Idaho.

September 27th: Blaine County

We had a great turn out at our Wood River Valley community listening session, which included individuals from Bellevue, Hailey, Sun Valley and Ketchum. We were greeted warmly by the Ketchum Public Librarian, Kristin Gearhart, and had a large crowd of people attend the evening information session. Many thanks to Blanca Green and Jenni Rangel – two elected officials who attended the gathering. Another shout out to The Hunger Coalition who provided $25 gift cards for everyone in attendance.

October 7 – 9th: Moscow

It was wonderful to be in Moscow because the weather was warm and the reception was even warmer. We met with folks interested in the program – either participating or passing information along – so that Moscow can continue to be the progressive community that brought most of the folks in the meeting there.

New Business: Recruitment through October 31st

Over the course of this week, we’ve added two additional listening sessions for Idaho communities to ask questions and get answers about what this program can do for them. Last night we held an online session for those who were unable to attend previous listening sessions. This Thursday will be our final session, held here in Boise at the Conservation Voters for Idaho office in downtown Boise.

If you would like to attend Thursday’s session, please contact us for details, or drop in at 6:30 pm at 413 Idaho St, Suite 100.

New Business: CVIEF Welcomes a Boards and Commissions Associate!!
It is a pleasure to announce the hiring of DJ Stephens as the first ever part-time Boards and Commissions Associate!! DJ is a military veteran, a social worker specializing in behavior modification of young men with dual diagnosis and an all around great human being. He will be helping us reach out to folks about the program and take on some communication tasks. We’re grateful to have another person to help expand the program and get the word out about all the good we are doing here at CVIEF. Welcome DJ!!

It has been a pleasure to travel around Idaho and meet with some amazing folks doing wonderful things in their home communities. We look forward to continuing to expand the reach of CVI’s fellowship program to rural areas across Idaho.

Please watch the Boards & Commissions webpage for more information about the program and if you have questions, please reach out via email toni@cvidaho.org.
